Harivamsha - Krishna Biography and Avatara List
The Harivamsha (Sanskrit: हरिवंश) is the appendix to the Mahabharata, providing Krishna’s complete biography and the first systematic presentation of the Dashavatara (ten avatars of Vishnu). It is the bridge text between the Epic and Puranic traditions.

The Harivamsha’s Role
The Harivamsha is the transition text in the SanskritGraph three-tier structure:
- Epic tier foundation: rooted in Mahabharata as an appendix
- Puranic theology: develops systematic avatara lists and bhakti doctrine
- Bridge to Kalki: the Dashavatara list makes Kalki’s position as tenth avatar theologically necessary
