Rig Veda 10.90: The Purusha Sukta - foundational cosmogony hymn. The Cosmic Person (Purusha) whose sacrifice creates the universe. ‘Thousand-headed Purusha, thousand-eyed, thousand-footed — he, having pervaded the earth on all sides, still extends ten fingers beyond it.’ Theological basis for the avatara doctrine of the cosmic Person descending.
